When is the Parade? Saturday, May, 17 2008 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM in Downtown Santa Rosa.
What is the Theme? “Go Green & X-treme” – showcasing activities that take life to the edge as we focus on reducing our carbon footprint.
What is the Parade route? From the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial the Parade will move out the back northwest corner of the parking lot to Stevenson Street, moving westward to South E Street. Parade turns north on South E Street to Third Street. Parade turns west onto Third and continues straight to B Street where the Parade completes its route.
Where is the Festival located? In Downtown Santa Rosa. The Festival includes food booths, live entertainment, and activities for kids of all ages.
2007 Parade Statistics: More than 3,500 participants in parade, over 20,000 spectators, more than 350 volunteers, nearly 100 cash contributions, over 100 sponsors, among the 125 units in the parade are 10 bands, 7 equestrian units, 18 floats, 40 novelty units, and a large veterans section in honor of Armed Forces Day.
Why are the streets closed? There is a parade. The Luther Burbank Rose Parade & Festival has been held in May since 1894.
How long are the streets closed? The streets designated for the Parade will be closed beginning at 8:00 AM so the Parade can assemble and line up. The parade starts at 10 AM. It lasts about 2 hours and will be over between noon and 1 PM. As soon as the Parade has cleared these streets, the City will begin to open the streets to traffic. The Festival will also be taking place on part of Mendocino Avenue and Fourth Street in downtown until 4:00 p.m., and cleaned up by 5:00 PM. At this point, those streets will be reopened.
How can I drive into that area? The parade area is closed to through traffic. Residents may drive in.
Where can I park? There is plenty of parking in the City Parking Garage on First & B Street and the City Parking Garage on 5th and Beaver streets. There is also the parking garage on Seventh Street between Mendocino and B Street. All are less than four blocks from the parade and festival areas.
What can I do if I ride my bike to the parade? Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition is proud to offer free, Secure Bicycle Parking at the Rose Parade. The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, whose goal it is to promote the bicycle for transportation and recreation, will be providing free valet bicycle parking. Secure Valet Bicycle Parking is like a coat check for bicycles. Patrons are issued claim checks in exchange for their bikes. Staff guards the bikes in a secure corral. So, get out of your cars and out into the air, and enjoy our great community.
I'm in the parade. Where do I go? Most parade entrants will stage in Santa Rosa Veteran’s Memorial Building Parking Lot and along Stevenson Street. Some staging will also occur on Sonoma Avenue and equestrians will stage on Santa Rosa Avenue. Once you are inside the staging area Volunteers can direct you.
Who puts this on? The Luther Burbank Rose Parade & Festival Inc., a private nonprofit corporation operated by a volunteer board of community leaders. They work year round planning and preparing for the event.
How is the parade funded? The Luther Burbank Rose Parade & Festival is funded through business sponsorships, grants from the City of Santa Rosa and County of Sonoma and also from vendor fees, entrant fees and bleacher ticket sales.
Where is the judging stand? On Third Street at D Street
How many people are in the parade? Over 3,500 people are in 125 entries in 5 divisions. This includes: floats, horses, marching bands, novelty units and more.
Where can I see the parade? From the curb along the entire parade. The parade is also televised live on TV 50 and rebroadcast on Sunday evening at 8 PM.
Can I sit in the street? No. The street must be kept clear. There are horses and many large units. For safety reasons, you must stay on the curb.
What if it rains? The event goes, rain or shine.
