How to Build an Award Winning Float - Thursday, February 25, 6 PM We will have special guest speakers to give you ideas and pointers on how to build an award winning entry. There will be valuable information provided regarding volunteers, roses and how to get your entry showcased at the Amgen Tour of California. This workshop is offered free of charge.

When is the Parade? Saturday, May, 15 2010 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM in Downtown Santa Rosa.

What is the Theme?  "ROSE PEDALS" ties this annual celebration of community into the weekend activities of the Amgen Tour of California bike race. Entrants are urged to use roses and fresh flowers whenever possible. Although not necessary, entrants are encouraged to consider using bicycles, tricycles and other self-propelled wheeled objects as part of their entry.

What is the Parade route?   The parade will start at Sonoma Avenue and E Street and proceed north on E Street turning left onto 4th Street and proceeding west on 4th Street to Mendocino Avenue where the parade will disband.

Where is the Festival located? Following the Parade we will have a Lemonade Stand contest in Courthouse Square before the Awards Contest.
 
2009 Parade Statistics: More than 3,500 participants in parade, over 20,000 spectators, more than 200 volunteers, nearly 100 cash contributions, over 100 sponsors, among the 125 units in the parade are 10 bands, 7 equestrian units, 18 floats, 40 novelty units, and a large veterans section in honor of Armed Forces Day.

Why are the streets closed? There is a parade. The Luther Burbank Rose Parade & Festival has been held in May since 1894.

What streets are closed?
Mendocino Avenue from 1st Street to 5th Street
4th Street from Mendocino Avenue to Brookwood Ave
3rd Street from Mendocino Avenue to Brookwood Ave
2nd Street from D Street to Brookwood Ave
1st Street from Mendocino Avenue to D Street
Sonoma Avenue from Santa Rosa Avenue to Brookwood Ave
E Street from Wheeler Street to 5th Street

How long are the streets closed? The streets designated for the Parade will be closed beginning at 8:00 AM so the Parade can assemble and line up. The parade starts at 10 AM. It lasts about 2 hours and will be over between noon and 1 PM.  As soon as the Parade has cleared these streets, the City will begin to open the streets to traffic. 

How can I drive into that area? The parade area is closed to through traffic. Residents may drive in.

Where can I park? There is plenty of parking in the City Parking Garage on First & B Street and the City Parking Garage on 5th and Beaver streets. There is also the parking garage on Seventh Street between Mendocino and B Street. All are less than four blocks from the parade areas.

What can I do if I ride my bike to the parade? Use bike racks located in each parking garage, in Courthouse Square and throughout the City.

I'm in the parade. Where do I go? Staging will occur on Sonoma Avenue east and west of E Street and on E Street south of Sonoma Avenue. You will receive information about where your unit will stage in early May.

Who puts this on? The Luther Burbank Rose Parade & Festival Inc., a private nonprofit corporation operated by a volunteer board of community leaders. They work year round planning and preparing for the event.

How is the parade funded? The Luther Burbank Rose Parade & Festival is funded through business sponsorships, grants from the City of Santa Rosa and County of Sonoma and also from vendor fees, and entrant fees.
Where is the judging stand? At the intersection of 4th Street and D Street on the north side.

How many people are in the parade? Over 3,500 people are in 125 entries in 4 divisions. This includes: floats, horses, marching bands, novelty units and more.

Where can I see the parade? From the curb along the entire parade.
Can I sit in the street? No. The street must be kept clear. There are horses and many large units. For safety reasons, you must stay on the curb.
What if it rains? The event goes, rain or shine.
