Festival
Festival venues have changed over the years including the beautiful Julliard Park on Santa Rosa Avenue, on Sonoma Avenue between Luther Burbank Gardens and City Hall, and last year at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds to watch Snoopy’s “Joe Cool” Paint Off. This year, the Festival will be held in the Downtown areas of Courthouse Square and 4th Street from B to E Streets.
New additions for the 2008 festival include a Green Zone where you can learn about steps we can all take to help save our planet and an X-Treme Zone where we will be showcasing extreme skate boarding demonstrations. Where else in Sonoma County can you learn about ways to reduce our carbon foot print and watch some gnarly boarding all in the same afternoon?
In addition to traditional Festival activities this year’s event will include extreme sports exhibitions in the X-Treme Zone, a Green Zone, an X-Treme n Green Iron Chef Competition, and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America will be showing off their skills with their annual Scout-O-Rama. Please note the Festival has been moved to Downtown Santa Rosa and will predominately be located in Courthouse Square and on Fourth Street from B Street to E Street.
The Kid's Area is fully equipped with an assortment of activities to keep kids of all ages entertained for hours with activities such as the climbing wall, inflatable slides & jumps, face painting, games, clowns, farm animals, story telling and more. The Kids’ 'Quipment Zone is one of the main attractions showcasing heavy equipment and city services vehicles in which children of all ages can explore and take for an imaginary test drive. Vehicles include fire trucks, police vehicles, buses, bulldozers, land movers and more.
In addition, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America will be showing off their skills with the Scout-O-Rama being held on D Street, between 3rd to 5th Streets.
The Festival of course will have an array of great food vendors serving up festival favorites including pizza, hot dogs, kettle corn, sno cones and cotton candy as well as some tasty healthy alternatives. For more information on being a vendor at the Festival click here.
Businesses, service groups and non-profit organizations are encouraged to participate at the Festival – both in providing information on their services and some sort of activity for children or adults. This is a great opportunity for businesses and organizations to let the community know what they have to offer. Click here for an application.
And don't forget the Redwood Empire Rose Society annual Rose Bloom Competition. This annual competition draws over 300 rose blooms grown by avid gardeners competing for the coveted Best of Show award. The competition is held at the Luther Burbank Home & Gardens located on the corner of Santa Rosa and Sonoma Avenues. |
